Meet Callum – Owner and Elite Performance Coach
A Sports Science graduate from Ulster University, Callum is a fully qualified and accredited coach with over10 years of experience in sports coaching, focusing on high performance volleyball. In January 2018 the decision was made to set up Giant Leap Sports.
‘Giant Leap Sports Coaching was set up to build the participation levels in both schools and clubs across the country. I believe that Volleyball is a sport that can be enjoyed by everyone. We believe we can introduce kids to a fast moving Olympic sport in an innovative and inspiring way, that gives each participant a unique and fun filled experience that differs from other sporting experiences‘
Alongside Giant Leap Sports, Callum also works as the Northern Ireland Volleyball Under 20 Men’s Head Coach, were they won gold at Flying Scots International Tournament in September 2019.
Past Experiences
University of Nottingham High Performance Volleyball Coach
(2015 – 2018)
For 3 years, Callum was in charge of transforming the Volleyball Performance Program at the University of Nottingham (UON), taking the team from outside the top 30 to 7th in the UK in BUCS.Alongside this, he led UON to a double promotion in their debut season in the Volleyball England’s National League. As a result of his success, UON became one of the six Senior Academies recognised by Volleyball England
Northern Ireland Senior Women’s Head Coach
(2014 – 2017)
During his 3 year period with the Northern Ireland Senior Women’s Programme, Callum guided the team to their first ever win at CEV Small Country Division, before leaving to concentrate on his University of Nottingham commitments.
Early Years
Starting out with Craigavon Aztecs, Callum set up a number of junior academies, as well as developing a number of coaching programmes with many local schools. Callum has previous experience of coaching at national level with the Northern Ireland U16s and U19’s, however it was the work that he carried out with the Northern Ireland Seniors Women’s programme that first brought him to the attention of many in the volleyball community
